“Safari travel offers a unique opportunity to explore the breathtaking beauty of untamed nature, observe wildlife in its natural habitat, and immerse yourself in diverse landscapes.”
— Zuri Escapes
Our itineraries are driven by our clients. No two itineraries are the same, we offer our clients the experiences they dream of and more.
Travelling to Africa is expensive and can be complicated. We make sure that each journey is crafted with your likes and dislikes in mind. Internal organisation and manoeuvring are essential- the infrastructure can be quite overwhelming, moving between national parks and hopping onto small planes.
At Zuri we make your journey flow seamlessly within each area bringing an element of wonder and awe to each destination. You will come home a transformed person.
Kenya
Kenya is pure magic. The variety of its ecosystems is stunning - from the semi-arid desert- like terrain in Samburu, the Rift Valley, mountain forests and the lush Savannah of the Masai Mara, or Tsavo down to the coast - each region is spectacular with unparalleled wildlife viewing.
Learning about the Samburu warriors or the Masai tribe is an enlightening experience, and how they have coexisted with the wildlife for centuries. Kenya has made a significant contribution to the conservation movement and made the world aware of lion conservation through Joy Adamson, the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the efforts of Anna Merz for the White Rhinos in Laikipia.
Kenya offers mobile tented Safaris, Horse Riding Safaris, and a luxurious tented experience.
Laikipia, located in the Eastern Rift Valley, is known for its expansive private ranches, many of which have views of Mt Kenya. The Luxury in these ranches is at another level, with private butlers, exquisite cuisine, dining in the bush, night game drivers or sleeping under the stars! All these are possible in just a few days. We select accommodation that suits the senses of our travellers best. Conservation is very important here and it hosts the White Rhino Sanctuary where extreme efforts are made to save the White Rhino.
Samburu is known for more rustic camps reflecting the natural landscape. It is normal here for the elephant to walk through your camp or as one my client described ‘made himself comfortable right outside my tent for the night’!
The Masai Mara is where the annual spectacle of Wildebeest migration occurs. Everything happens here: the hot air balloon with Champagne breakfast in the bush, the river crossings of the Wildebeeste with Crocodiles waiting to catch the young! The evening fire lit sundowners under the stars exchanging stories about daily adventures are memories to behold.
The Tsavo and Amboseli national parks have also been a favourite with our travellers. Views of Mt Kilimanjaro create a stunning backdrop, it is sheer wilderness here with long drives looking for animals. These parks are en route to the Coast of Kenya if you decide to be driven rather than fly from Nairobi.
To experience the unique Coastal culture from the Lamu Archipelago down to the Diani Beach is a wonderful way to spend the last few days of your journey. Long white sandy beaches, the crystal blue waters, the marine life, the local unique architecture of the hotels and villas will be a truly heartwarming experience.
Rwanda and Uganda - the Mountain Gorilla Safari
Both Rwanda and Uganda share an ecosystem which has the last remaining Mountain Gorillas.
Conservation efforts have contributed to the stabilisation and growth of the mountain Gorilla Population. A trek in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest amongst the dense foliage to see the Gorilla families is a sight to behold, in Rwanda the Virunga mountains has volcanic peaks which are breathtaking. Again here we tailor make the journey which could either include both countries or combine other parts of East Africa with Rwanda/Uganda.
A recent traveller of Zuri combined Laikipia, Masai Mara and Bwindi, which was a ‘bucket list’ request to see the Migration and Mountain Gorillas on the same trip.
Tanzania
Miles and miles of Serengeti await you in Northern Tanzania with plenty of choice for lodges and camps. If you want to catch the migration here it is important to know where it is taking place - the wildebeest trek to Masai Mara along the western Serengeti and travel back via the Eastern corridor, but of course, the annual timing is very dependent on the rains.
The Ngorongoro crater has been described as an ‘African Eden’ and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This lies in Northern Tanzania and works perfectly as a part of a northern Safari.
Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak is in this area and you can decide to have a mountain-based holiday and combine it with Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
Further south there is the Ruaha and Selous National Parks to visit. These quieter national parks are remote and much quieter but with tremendous game viewing. These parks offer untamed wilderness, open plains and work well when combined.
Zanzibar is a beautiful way to end your Tanzanian experience. Known as the Spice Island, and apart from the tropical beaches and coral reefs, it’s rich history is found in the architecture and its unique cultural mix.
Southern Africa
Zuri destinations include South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana.
You are simply spoilt for choice here. Each area has something unique and special to offer.
The Cape Wine lands, the Okavango Delta, Kalahari, Victoria Falls, and Kruger are all truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Botswana offers high-end remote lodges with some spectacular experiences- the habituated Meerkats of the Kalahari that may even climb on you, an afternoon with the Sandbush people, riding Safaris in the Okavango Delta, a boat cruise in the Chobe National Park and much more.
Victoria Falls is shared by 3 countries and one can choose to be in Zimbabwe or Zambia.
Zambia is another hidden gem of Africa, famous for pioneering the walking safari. Spectacular waterways provide a thrilling safari experience with seven magnificent waterfalls, in addition to Victoria Falls. It has the biggest mammalian migration with about 10 million fruit bats migrating annually from October to December. South Luangwe National Park has one of the highest concentrations of leopards, and is often called ‘the Valley of the Leopards’. Lusaka has the only elephant orphanage in Southern Africa.
South Africa is known for its several distinct ecosystems. A first stop is generally Cape Town, known as one of the most iconic cities in the world. The Cape beaches and the Wine Lands, Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope are a must on your visit here. The Kruger is a vast area of wildlife, where you can decide to stay in the national park itself or the private game reserves such as the Sabi Sand private reserve where you can experience unbelievable levels of luxury in the bush.
